We have some interesting news…
Knowing that today was the day that test results would be released, many students went to school this morning eager to see their results. Now those students get to worry over the weekend.
When calling various schools for a statement, we were told this has never happened before. LDOE says the reason for the delay is "technical difficulties".
Could the hold up be that the scores are so bad, that John White needs time to spin a good story? Has Common Core done that phenomenal of a job dumbing down our kids?

Parents need to call and ask for their child’s test scores. We must be relentless until our questions are answered!

Where do we call to get our children's scores?
ReplyDeleteTried the number above but their mail box is full.
ReplyDeleteWHAT THIS TEST DOES TO KIDS PSYCHOLOGICALLY IS CRIMINAL.
ReplyDeleteThat is why I have decided to homeschool via private school at someone's house. And that our state still has a corporal punishment law still in effect.
DeleteThis event should prove beyond a shadow of a doubt how incompetent John White really is. Students and teachers had no idea what was going on today when scores didn't come in on time. It's amazing how the teachers and students are held to higher standards, but John White and his team of idiots can email school systems with an IOU for Tuesday. Wow! Totally unacceptable!!! My favorite part is how the schools were emailed after lunch. I guess John White either slept in or was busy on his lunch break and he couldn't bother emailing at 8:00 a.m. I guess all these children and teachers "Louisiana Believes" in aren't even worth a simple and punctual email. So, what is really happening? John White and his buddies are altering test scores because the scores probably didn't come out the way he wanted and this totally ruins his million dollar speech about how he was correct and teachers were wrong regarding grandfathering new assessment in. After all, what do veteran teachers know compared to John White's two years of teaching? Now, he will need the weekend to alter scores so he doesn't have to admit he was wrong and is an idiot. Well, your not that slick Mr. White! The parents of Louisiana aren't stupid either, and they will figure you out before you have a chance to destroy our public schools. Shame on you and the entire Louisiana Department of Education. It's a shame all of you don't have to answer for this behavior yet you have teacher and students all over Louisiana filled with anxiety and fear over test scores you have created.
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteJust to clarify-students are never given their scores at school. Nor is there a way for a parent to call and get scores. The school receives the scores, calls the parents of students who have failed, and mails the results so that parents usually receive them the following day. It is correct that school system superintendents received an email As an educator, it is not the CCSS that I am opposed to. It is the test that will come along with the CCSS. I am not a fan of John White and the truth of what happened today should be interesting, if we ever hear it. However, I do not for one second think that the state is altering scores over the weekend. I've been an teacher for 25 years and just like everything else Louisiana does, this will not last. We will jump off this bandwagon and right on to the next one and as always, our children and teachers will pay the price!
DeleteOur kids have always gotten their test results whether good or bad. Never have received phone calls about test results always handed to me by my kids. Common core needs to be thrown out before it is too late. Damage is being done to our kids.
DeleteIve been in the system for 17 years and this is a first. I have only worked under three principals my entire career and they have always given the students their scores in person. We have always taken tge students into the gym to discuss any feelings they might have about their scores.
DeleteJust to clarify a little further...where I teach, the students do receive their test scores at school. The school/teachers receive them and give them to the students. The principal does contact the parents of the students that failed, but the scores are also given out.
ReplyDeleteStudents DO get their scores at school and take them home in an envelope.
ReplyDeleteAssuming that all schools handle scores the same way is wrong. Our students do receive their test scores at school by their teachers. Parents are notified before the children that failed are told, so the parent has the option of checking the child out before scores are given. Many people do believe that John white is changing the scores in some way to make them more pleasing to the public. It would be harder to continue his sales pitch with crummy scores. In 14 years of giving the LEAP test, I've never seen this happen regarding score results. As far as jumping from one band wagon to another, I disagree. We stuck with NCLB for over 14 years. I hardly consider that bandwagon jumping. Common Core looks to be cemented in place by law, which will make jumping off the bandwagon very difficult. I do agree that our children, teachers, and schools will pay the price for this high stakes testing fiasco based on questionable test scores.
ReplyDeleteDamage has been going on with these stupid tests for far too many years now. We did get our scores at school, not over the phone or in the mail. Regardless, I'm sure enough can agree that it is and has always been torure for every single student who has ever taken it in their life. It was for me! Students work too hard all year long to pass and then be forced to take these standardized tests and fail the entire grade level... It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteMAYBE THEY NEED TO FIRE THIS JOHN WHITE, AND GO BACK TO THE PROPER WAY OF TEACHING,AND SAVE THE TAX PAYERS MONEY .NOT HAVING TO PAY SOMEONE FOR TRYING TO TEACH THINGS THAT ARE SO UN CALLED FOR. I JUST WOUNDER HOW LONG IT TOOK HIM TO TAKE UP SPACE IN SOME OFFICE TO FIGURE THIS KIND OF TEACHING OUT, COULD THEY NOT FIND SOME THING BETTER FOR HIM TO DO. I GUESS THIS WAS JUST A
ReplyDeleteWAY OF HIM SPENDING OUR TAX PAYERS MONEY. JUST CAN'T SEE PAYING A MAN TO MESS UP OUR CHILDREN'S MINDS !!!!!!!!!
John White is incompetent and has a disregard for parents, teachers, and anyone else who isn't a part of the TFA or Reform machine. The incompetency at the state level continues to increase as White has replaced anyone who had a shred of knowledge there with sycophants who will nod and agree to his every whim or with TFA people who have 2 years or less experience working in education. It's easier to find water in the Sahara Desert than it is to find someone in the state dept of ed who could tell the difference between their his or her ass and a hole in the ground.
ReplyDeleteI'm a kid who didn't get my scores! Everybody at school was scared enough, then they said we weren't gonna get them, we got more stressed! Is the school just making up excuses? There's no telling!
ReplyDeleteI'm an 8th grade English teacher. I'm so very sorry you are stressed! I was so very sorry for my students on Friday who have been anxiously awaiting their scores. I hope you pass! Best of luck!
DeleteOur last day of school is Tuesday so many of our children will leave for the summer without knowing if they have passed or not. This has definitely been handled poorly and unprofessionally. I'm sure if I just didn't get something done on time a simple I'll get it to you later would work...not!
ReplyDeleteI agree!! The DOE obviously knew before Friday AFTER LUNCH that the scores were not going to be ready! Why didn't John White email all of the parishes on Thursday evening? My school had a a very well-thought out plan for passing out scores, exempting students from finals that did well, and counseling those who failed. We just waiting around like goofballs all morning trying to download scores that were never there to begin with! This was so poorly handled, and John White and his people are accountable to NO ONE unlike the teachers and principals who have to feel their jobs are at stake every spring waiting on their VAM scores and SLT ratings! Shame on the DOE!!!
DeleteIt was my understanding scores were to be out on the 9th. Then pushed to tge 16th. Now the 20th. What next? When I was in school we got our cat results in mid summer. Now our kids take the test way too early... think school is over...all so they will know if yhey passed or not and whether or not they need summer school...who holds them accoubtable...let me see whites vam score!
ReplyDeleteParents should write letters of demand to see their child's graded test. Period. The more parents who do that the better. Then take it from there with the determination that you will not accept no. Teachers cannot withhold student graded work from parents so why should the district or state be able to. Fight fire with fire. Teachers likewise can make a point by using satire in writing new classroom policies that state things like 1. Your child's grade will be based on one standardized test at the end of the year that purports to be so accurate that my job and your child's promotion are dependent on it. 2. Students in my classes will not be able to see their graded work nor can parents see the assignments. 3. Technology is now the most important and essential tool that no books will be issued this year and students must do all work on line. 4. In compliance with the benefits and demands of Our new Common Core State Standards, every child will be treated the same, will be expected to produce the same homework on the same subjects. Standardization will best strictly adhered to so that if you transfer to another school, you will be on the same page. 5. ........
